Family Therapy
Family therapy involves meeting with multiple members of the family at once, and is a useful approach when the entire family is impacted by a situation or struggling with certain issues. Family therapy can identify relationship patterns in the family system that may be more difficult to notice in individual therapy, and offers the opportunity to experience new ways of relating that can shift unhealthy family dynamics. Generally, family therapy is most helpful when the parents are also in their own individual therapy, as this gives them the opportunity to process their individual reactions to the process. Family therapy tends to be a short-term approach, that focuses on identifying and achieving specific goals or resolving particular issues. Families may return for additional sessions if they come upon a stumbling block or new issues arise.
